Our Story

It all began with an idea.

Our Founder, Eric, was deep into a 11-hour programming session on a grant-funded research study examining millions of anonymized data points from customers of a large E.U.-based firm.

The goal of the project was to use data science to better understand spending patterns in financial transaction data.

Several years into a career on the Faculty at Harvard Medical School, he realized that the same cutting-edge analytical tools used in scientific research studies could be applied to understand consumer behavior, enhance the sustainability of organizations, and help businesses to optimize their marketing, profitability, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategies.

Around this same time, artificial intelligence (AI) was growing rapidly, making its way into all facets of life, ranging from everyday people using ChatGPT prompts for advice to large-scale AI models identifying new pharmaceutical drug candidates for multi-national corporations.

At this point, our Founder had a realization:

AI models and machine learning algorithms in both industry and science are often “black boxes“, meaning that much of their inner workings are proprietary, and they’re often used without much thought to the accuracy or interpretability of the results.
— Eric R. Louderback, Ph.D.

In response, Dr. Louderback launched Chestnut Hill Analytics in Boston, Massachusetts to put a human touch on data science, machine learning, predictive analytics, and AI.

The name derives from the Chestnut Hill neighborhood that borders Newton, Brookline, and Boston, which has long been host to innovation and industry pioneers.

Boston Water Works, Chestnut Hill High-Service Pumping Station

Not only is Chestnut Hill home to many of Boston’s top doctors, attorneys, engineers, executives, and entrepreneurs, it’s also home to one of the nation’s first large-scale running water pumping and filtration stations (see photo), which opened in 1887.

Chestnut Hill is very close to the Longwood Medical Area, which is home to the nation’s leading hospitals (e.g., Boston Children’s Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital) and biomedical research institutions, who are paving the way to better treatment and prevention of disease.

Chestnut Hill Analytics seeks to carry the torch of this long history of technological innovation and is proud to be a member of the dynamic Boston business community.
